Dr Rita Poddar

With a lifelong passion for art and a strong desire to help others, I found the perfect career path in dentistry—where science, aesthetics, and patient care intersect. I graduated from the University of Glasgow with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 1999 and completed vocational training in 2000. I worked as an associate until 2003, when I purchased my first dental practice. Today, I own three practices, leading a team of associates, therapists, and support staff.

Early in my career, I developed a keen interest in minimally invasive cosmetic dentistry, oral surgery, and facial aesthetics. My approach prioritises holistic, patient-centred care with a strong focus on aesthetics that are both natural and conservative. This ethos led me to expand into facial aesthetics, where I have performed over 20,000 procedures on more than 2,000 patients over the past 20 years.

A significant milestone was training under globally renowned experts such as Dr Zein Obagi, Dr Bob Khanna, Dr Arthur Swift, and Dr Mauricio de Maio. I was the first clinician in Scotland certified to perform the ZO controlled depth peel and became part of Dr Obagi’s UK faculty. I also specialise in non-surgical facelifts using PDO thread lifting, having performed over 1,000 procedures and trained more than 300 professionals across the UK.

My teaching portfolio includes collaborations with leading aesthetic companies such as Croma Pharma, Sinclair Pharma, and Cosmetic Courses. I’m currently a PDO thread lift trainer for Wigmore Medical and La Belle Forme Glasgow and serve as a key opinion leader in facial aesthetics. I’ve spoken at major conferences including FACE UK, IAAFA, and events at the Royal College of Surgeons and Royal College of Physicians.
Despite developing arthritis in my dominant hand, I adapted by focusing more on facial aesthetics, teaching, and leadership. I continue to support my teams, helping dental nurses progress into hygiene or dental careers and mentoring associates towards specialisation and practice ownership.

Beyond clinical practice, I’ve contributed to media and education, appearing on BBC’s Asian Network and CBeebies’ Woolly and Tig, and writing for The Herald and Aesthetics Journal. My entrepreneurial and leadership achievements have earned multiple awards, including from the Scottish Asian Business Awards and Scottish Dentistry Awards. In 2011, I was invited to 10 Downing Street to discuss my work in mentoring and leadership.

Philanthropically, I served for a decade on the committee of The Scottish Circle (part of Annie Lennox’s charity), helping raise nearly £500,000 for women’s empowerment initiatives.
I remain committed to advancing standards in aesthetic medicine through safe, ethical, and artistic treatments, mentoring others, and contributing to professional education. My work continues to be driven by the same vision I had at 18—to blend art, altruism, and clinical excellence in a way that truly benefits others.
